Take a bow!

Bows are a timeless accessory, a touch of romance and femininity, a gentle caress in a harsh winter.

Precious flakes

The history of flakes is very ancient, in oriental cultures they represented a tribute to the deities. In ancient Egypt the bow represented the goddess Isis, as an emblem of eternity and divine love. They reached their greatest notoriety in the Baroque era, used as an ornament, but also for the production of jewellery. It was in fact Gilles Légaré, one of the most famous goldsmiths at the court of the Sun King who drew inspiration from woven ribbons, contributing to their diffusion throughout all European courts.

A woman who made bows very popular was Madame de Sévigné, we owe the definition “Sévigné” to her, the French writer was in fact one of the first to decorate the front of the corset with bow-shaped jewels and diamonds.

Vintage bows

One of the most famous bows is the “lavallière” bow, a tie tied around the neck like a bow. It owes its name to the Duchess of La Vallière, one of the Sun King’s favorites, the first woman to wear one of hers. We find the lavallière in the nineteenth century around the neck of intellectuals, poets, artists, musicians… an accessory that became a political-anarchist symbol.

Unforgettable bows

The bow has also become a must in the hair, the famous one on the head of the beautiful Brigitte Bardot, or today on Dua Lipa, Lilly Collins, Anya Taylor-Joy…

Couture bows

Innocent, almost childish, the bow remains one of the most traditional accessories. I still remember when it was worn in primary school, black apron and blue bow for boys and white apron with pink bow for girls, it seems like a century ago. It is also the symbol of a new birth, of a bond, of a promise.

Designer bows

It was Yves Saint Laurent, like many of his revolutionary intuitions, who made it sophisticated and sexy as he combined it with the male tuxedo, a symbol of female emancipation. Then again Valentino, with his wonderful couture dresses, romantic and elegant Giambattista Valli, Victor & Rolf with their inexhaustible creativity, just to name a few. In short, the bow is not just a detail, it can become the protagonist of a look.

Scented flakes

The bow is the intertwining of two ribbons, of two distinct parts that come together. It could be the perfect symbol of this crazy historical moment in which wars and violence characterize news and newspapers. May the world be filled with bows, then. celebrating births and joy.

Good life to everyone!
