“Monster and Perfumes”, Milano Unica 2020

KS # 1320 “Parfume of Leisure”, mood by Beatrice Brandini

The 31st edition of Milano Unica, the most important textile and accessories fair in the sector, opens today. Important, without being presumptuous or impartial, since it gathers the best producers of artifacts (fabrics and accessories), the same ones that we will see on the catwalks around the world in approx. six months.

For this edition the research space has created Monsters and Perfumes, a story that recalls chromatic suggestions but also olfactory, tactile and visual, yes because, when it comes to fashion, one cannot but speak of emotions.

Monster and Perfumes is about fantastic creatures, conceived from recycling various material such as fabrics, nets, accessories, cork, hooks, rubber, etc. etc. These ironic and bizarre figures are especially sensitive to ecology, a cherished theme that Milano Unica has been pursuing for some years, one of the first textile events to have taken on such an important and delicate subject into consideration, raising awareness of a more sustainable fashion supply chain.

Monster and Pefumes unfolds into three themes that correspond to three different creatures. The first theme is: KS # 1320 the technical comfort of the “Parfumes of Leisure Time”; the second theme is CZ # 5381, that is the sophisticated and snobbish style of the “Perfume of Power”; finally FX # 8568 which is the most romantic aesthetic of the “Perfume of the Soul”.

CZ#5381 “Scent of Power”. Mysterious creature with a bourgeois and sophisticated aesthetic; feeds on vintage and classic, tailored and precious fabrics. The sublimation of pure and eternal elegance. Fabrics: masculine jacquards, pied de poule, vichy, ironic designs play down the austerity of these fabrics. Satins, taffeta, velvets. Grosgrain accessories, taping, pearl applications, moiré as a base for labels and accessories, such as for belts. Eco fur with geometric designs. Leather-effect buttons and closures.

FX#8568 “Perfume of the Soul”. It is a romantic, poetic, intimate and wise creature. Overlapping volumes, geometries. Fabrics: decorated jacquards, woolly yarns, cottons that look like paper. In the shirt there are fluid prints and ethereal designs. Plissé and origami, windowed jacquard, embossed stitching, coating. But together with these volumes and this creativity, a more ethereal and romantic spirit also coexists, like that expressed by lace. Accessories: exaggerated dimensions, playful and fantastic effect. Macro embossed, pleated, geometric or animal motifs. Patchwork.

KS#1320 “Scent of Free Time”. The forest and the open air are the natural habitat of this creature. Freedom, joie de vivre, are the key words, but also comfort and functionality. Fabrics: check, camouflage, macro structures, inlays, bouclé. Wool, cashmere, mohair give life to mats with irregular weaves. The streams are reproduced on plastic (strictly recycled). Gumming, wet effects, coatings, oiled cottons, irregular embroidery. Many tweeds and loden, whose designs are exasperated in the textures and weaves. Bulky accessories, mosses and lichens inspire fabrics and accessories. Reusing materials becomes a must and a feature especially in the details.

I could have continued by making many other mood boards, in fact there were many beautiful and always innovative proposals presented at the fair. But you know, it is good to leave a little “hungry” for the following courses, fueling curiosity and imagination. Do not miss Milano Unica, you will never waste a trip going to visit it.

Good life to everyone!

Beatrice
