A glimpse of the Medici Chapels

An integrated museum system was presented to the press today at the Medici Chapels, enhancing a constellation of museums in Florence’s historic center and strengthening their recognizability.

GAMB was born from the desire to give unity to a complex entity that includes, in addition to the Galleria dell’Accademia and the Bargello National Museum, Orsanmichele, Casa Martelli, Palazzo Davanzati, the Medici Chapels, and the former Church of San Procolo.
The pictogram represents a dynamic synthesis of the geographical distribution of the seven locations in the historic center: a unified core from which various branches branch out toward the various components of the hub, transforming the map into a narrative and symbolic element projected into the city.

“The new visual identity,- emphasizes General Director Andreina Contessa, – represents a fundamental tool for making a complex and widespread museum system recognizable and coherent. It is the sign of a shared vision, capable of restoring unity to a plurality of locations and histories and strengthening their dialogue with the city and its diverse audiences. The pictogram designed by Migliore+Servetto is a dynamic sign that suggests movement and connection, path and intersection, and evokes the possibility of exploration and discovery. It effectively draws a map that is both geographical and conceptual, uniting places of art and history and generating intertwined experiences and knowledge.”

From this perspective, the system enhances an architectural and artistic heritage spread throughout the urban fabric, offering a journey through the many eras and diverse faces of Florence and creating thematic itineraries and intersecting paths.

Mayor of Florence Sara Funaro, during the press conference
“We didn’t just design a symbol, but a map capable of connecting culture to its territory,” say Ico Migliore and Mara Servetto. “GAMB’s identity is a living symbol that unites seven extraordinary places from a common center. It is a widespread work of art that invites people to rediscover history by walking through the heart of Florence.”

The result is a true urban diagram: art is not segregated in a single container, but spreads throughout the very territory where it was born, through a consistent and identifiable language.
