“The Fashionists” by Beatrice Brandini

Interesting preview of MILANO UNICA for the Autumn-Winter 2023/24 trends, since the message, or the will, is to go beyond the classic time frame of the seasons, proposing a new “seasonless” concept.

The idea is current and intelligent because the demand of the markets, which have become increasingly vast and global, occurs at the same time but the seasonality, therefore the need, is not the same, since we are talking about different hemispheres. In addition to the different geographic-meteorological factor, there is also climate change that offers us milder winters and shorter summers, new fabrics will increasingly have to take all these aspects into account.

The journey that Milano Unica undertakes through the prestigious supply chain of Italian manufacturing is to try to overcome the concept of the season and therefore of wool, linen, cotton, muslin, velvet … putting to the test (challenge won) the suppliers who perhaps for the first time they have tried to create fabrics for next winter but that could also work in summer. In fact, the proposal manages to mix fibers and fabrics, heaviness and lightness, accessories and colors, going beyond the usual and perhaps past concept of seasonal and chromatic classification.

Three main trends:

Seasonless Opulence, Seasonless Nature and Seasonless Flexibility

Seasonless Opulence: Opulent, folk, universal and timeless aesthetics. Travels with oriental hints (in the prints), Woodstock with echoes of the 70s, the lightness of the fabrics of the 30s. Monumental fashion, so are some exaggerated thicknesses. Accessories are precious like buttons or jewel closures, fringes, folk applications. Colors: watercolor pink, tangerine, lilac, grape violet, chalk, anthracite, black.

Seasonsless Nature: Reconnect with nature. New shapes inspired by this wonderful plant world. Molds, mushroom, organic materials inspire decorations and textures. The accessories are floral embroidery, embossed applications, organic-looking buttons. Colors: pine green, sage green, bark brown, mustard, antique pink, cream.

Seasonless Flexibility: Without seasons and without borders. Flexibility also understood as the fluidity of passage towards parallel worlds, between real and virtual. Technical fabrics, thin and stretch wools, twisted cottons and super light padding. Accessories that refer to the world of sport, techno closures, iridescent 3D effects. Colors: geranium, sky blue, pastel aviation blue, strawberry pink, slate pink, smoky gray.

Speaking, but above all seeing, what will be the fabrics that will then be used in a year and a half by the biggest luxury houses and the most creative designers, is certainly very stimulating; but projecting into 2024 I hope also means that we have definitively emerged from the pandemic, a nightmare that has characterized enormously these last two years. And, in the light of these last weeks, also that this stupid war, so close but also so far, in the almost global indifference, is just a bad memory.

Good life to everyone!

Beatrice
