Knitting trends for Autumn – Winter 2019/2020 exhibited at Pitti Filati, highlighted a main theme W.W.W. dedicated to those generations that in 2018 will turn eighteen and have revolutionized uses and consumption thanks (or for the fault) of the network. A generation that communicates, acquires, conquers and loves, in a place that breaks the laws of space and time.

A narcissistic generation (S.E.L.F.); which acquires globally and compulsively (E.B.U.Y.); which greedily informs itself without too deepening the substance or the reliability of the news (N.E.W.S.); that is known without inhibitions and that loves without too many taboos (X.X.X.L); that through the game breaks the temporal barriers and finds its favorite pastime (G.A.M.E.), and finally that communicates with symbols and codes (W.A.P.P.).

I created mood boards to better understand each theme, making a sketch for volumes / shapes and colors, with the yarns of Pitti Filati’s Research Space.

N.E.W.S. We create and spread news, always connected, we share everything, even fake news. Soft colors in the shade of beige, they are combined with lime or raspberry.

S.E.L.F. Internet is the perfect stage for visibility. We only exist online and the selfie is our Adam’s rib. Dusty colors, lilac, antique rose, mauve pink, sugar paper.

E.B.U.Y. We buy and sell everything online. Each of us becomes the merchant of himself. Warm colors in shades of yellow, such as mustard, ocher, mandarin, combined with grays, such as chalkboard or pearl.

W.A.P.P. Communication in the digital age is instant messaging. Vocabulary is characterized by symbols and forms. Knitwear as messages to wear. Faded neon color. Green jasmine, lemonade yellow, mandarin orange, ceramic blue, violet dahlia.

The Pitti Immagine Discovery Foundation, in collaboration with Modateca Deanna, has launched a project dedicated to Italian knitwear excellence. This edition featured the knitwear collections of Marina Spadafora.

Marina Spadafora has been a great protagonist of Made in Italy in the decade between the Eighties and the Nineties with its innovative and creative knitwear collections. La Spadafora was also one of the first designers to talk about ethical and responsible fashion, in years when it was not “popular” to do it. Modateca Deanna collects a wealth of creativity and technology, developed by the historic knitwear house Miss Deanna over the course of 50 years of activities and collaborations with the most important designers in the world.
