In Milan, at the Fabbrica Orobia, there was a meeting on trends that will accompany us towards the 29th edition of MilanoUnica next July, a meeting that, as usual, dictated the diktats on what will be the directions of fabrics, colors , accessories, for Autumn – Winter 2020-21. New and original suggestions have given life to the thematic path “Ecorotica”, a sort of acronym, or wordplay, in which the main actors are SUSTAINABILITY and HEDONISM.

Two contradictory and absolutely contemporary themes, in which on the one hand every type of commitment becomes necessary, such as that for the preservation of our planet, but on the other it is the search for pleasure and for appearing to determine today a style / model of life. This bizarre and unusual combination, developed by the Style Commission under the direction of Stefano Fadda, has led to an interesting work as cultural and iconographic references draw from the cinema, contemporary art, music, mixing aesthetics and different influences.

Three themes presented under the claim “Ecorotica”: Ecorotic Drama, Ecorotic Eden, Ecorotic Circus.

Three stages of life, as wisely they have been defined by MilanoUnica, in which drama, supernatural and surreal mix and give life to wonderful artifacts.

As I usually do, to tell the meeting in an effective and immediate way to all the students, designer and companies that follow me, I prepared mood boards with my sketches, evocative images and the wonderful fabrics presented.

The first stage is “Ecorotic Drama”:

Drama and acting, pathos and emotion are the key words. Theatricality. David Lynch and Man Ray. Fabrics such as brocades, organza, velvets, lamé. Precious accessories, necklaces, pearls, jais. Snakes and ornamental designs embellish fabrics and details. Intense colors like Burgundy, midnight blue, black, or light, like meat and onion skin; but also metallic touches given by steel and bronze.

The second stage is “Ecorotic Eden”:

Fauns, chimeras, plants, humanoids, half insects and half men, characterize this dreamlike and supernatural theme for atmospheres, colors and textures. It is not a reassuring nature but it is full of suggestions. Machined, three-dimensional, shredded, sectioned fabrics. Ecological feathers and furs, jacquards with kaleidoscopic designs. Colors like moss green and sage, pale pink, coral, silver, violet grapes, the blackboard.

The last stage is “Ecorotic Circus”:

A theme whose attitude is in the name itself, that is the mocking and bold one of those who pretend for fun or art. Clowns, jugglers, acrobats. The ideal terrain for Tim Burton’s Gothic and dreamlike nature. Fabrics like lace and very fine poplin, scottish and houndstooth. Very many embroideries and three-dimensional applications on fabrics. Sensual and sexy accessories. Colors: off white, vermilion, gold, ocher, aubergine, geranium, peony, deep blue.

The theme of eco-sustainability is now urgent and MilanoUnica has been talking about it with international resonance for some time. The only possible scenario for a better world is to take it into account with commitment and seriousness, making sure that the creative processes start from this point.

Ecorotica is actually a careful reflection on the behavior of the new generations and beyond. “The theme of eroticism stems from the observation of the attitudes that social networks have triggered on a global scale..” explains the artistic director Stefano Fadda himself. “The law of” like “has in fact promoted the desire or need to show itself and to appear to be approved and shared …”

“It is interesting to discover how two apparently so distant aspects have been combined creatively” is the comment of Ercole Botto Paola, President of Milano Unica. “Sustainability as a long-term commitment for our planet has long been at the center of the initiatives of Milano Unica”.
